What Is Double Eyelid Surgery?
While having single eyelids (or monolids) is not a medical issue, the lack of crease can be bothering. Some people have issues like obstructed vision, imbalance between both eyelids and others want eyes that appear bigger.
Double Eyelid Surgery is a technique to create a crease in the upper eyelid by making incisions to remove excess skin and fat before closing the skin with sutures. This results in a bigger eye look. It is a famous procedure especially among those who have a monolid feature.
While non-incisional procedure is more preferred by many, incisional procedure is more advantageous for those with droopy eyelids and excess fats on the eyelids. Incisional approach also enables you to have the crease design of your choice and more prominent double eyelid lines. At our affiliated clinic, expert surgeons will be able to give you a natural finish, with invisible scarring.
In-line Eyelid Design
In this design, the eyelid crease begins subtly in the inner corner of the eye and widens as it reaches the outer corner.
Out-line Eyelid Design
In this design, the eyelid crease has a gap with the eye, and the gap's distance is the same from the inner to the outer corner, parallel to the eye shape.
In-out-line Eyelid Design
This design has a crease that is not attached to the eye just like the out-line design, but with a narrow start at the inner corner and the gap between the crease and the eye widens at it reaches the outer corner.
Treatment Procedure
1. Before surgery, a consultation will be made with the doctor to examine your eye condition and decide on your desired eyelid design.
2. Markings will be made.
3. Local anesthesia will be administered.
4. Incision will be made along the eyelid to remove excess muscle, fat and skin.
5. The muscle and skin will then be tied together with intricate knots to create the eyelid crease.
6. End of treatment. Please return to the clinic 5 to 7 days after procedure for thread removal.
Revision Double Eyelid Surgery
A revision surgery is done when patients are unhappy with the results of previous eyelid surgery. Issues can include unfavorable scarring, hollowing of the eyelids or residual bags and bulges.
The procedure is more complex than the first surgery since it deals with very delicate areas. The treatment can be carried out in several ways depending on the eye condition, which will be examined by the doctor. A consultation is important to determine the issues, complexity of the problem as well as the right approach to conduct a revision surgery.
