What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization, known in short as IVF, is a procedure of fertilizing eggs and sperm within the laboratory outside of the body. The resulting embryos will then be transferred back into the uterus for the pregnancy to proceed naturally.

IVF is used in the case where you have been diagnosed with a blocked or damaged fallopian tube, or your partner has severe male infertility. Some couples require a process called ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) in the cases of low sperm count or any form of abnormality, to inject a single sperm into the egg microscopically. Despite the cases, ICSI is usually carried out 90% of the time as part of the process.

What is NextGen Program?

NextGen Program is an IVF package specially designed for older couples with AMH above 14pmol/l. AMH stands for anti-Mullerian hormone, which is produced by the medium-sized immature eggs within the ovaries of women. The AMH is useful for an indication of likely menopausal age, likely reproductive time frame, and likely response to drugs in an IVF cycle.

How It Works

The procedure is the same as normal IVF but this package includes preimplantation genetic testing in which you will be able to have results reported for any genetic disorders or chromosome abnormalities, before the embryo transfer.

A single strongest embryo that is free from abnormalities will be selected and transferred into the uterus that has been prepared following IVF procedure; this prevents multiple pregnancies and increases your chance of conceiving a healthy baby successfully.

The entire IVF process takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

NextGen Program (IVF) Procedure

At our affiliated clinic, IVF is a 5-step process:

1. Egg Production
Involves ovaries stimulation with fertility injections to produce eggs. The injections are self-administered and take 10 to 12 days.

2. Egg Collection (Ovum Pick Up, OPU)
Oocytes will be collected once matured.

3. Sperm Collection
On the same day with OPU, the donor's semen sample will be collected and inseminated into the eggs. With ICSI, the strongest sperm will be injected manually into the egg.

4. Fertilisation and Embryo Development
The inseminated eggs will then be incubated in the laboratory. The time-lapse incubator intakes photos as the eggs grow, providing the information on the best embryo for transfer.

5. Embryo Transfer
The healthiest embryo will be selected and transferred into the uterus. A pregnancy test is required to be done 2 weeks after the procedure. The period will be deferred to a later date for patients who have chosen the NextGen IVF package at the convenience, after the PGS results.
