What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the male chest tissue. The condition makes the chest swell due to an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone; this can affect 1 or both chest, and unevenly in some cases. Gynecomastia can be painful for some people and the treatment depends mainly on the cause of it.
In the case with no fibrosis detected, the procedure can simply be performed with liposuction.

How It Works

There are 2 methods to correct gynecomastia at our affiliated clinic: Liposuction and Subcutaneous Mastectomy.

The surgeons would suggest the best-suited treatment for you after a thorough examination of your swollen or enlarged chest. Normally, liposuction is more effective for the fat storage caused by obesity, whereas the fibrosis found in the chest tissues requires subcutaneous mastectomy. Alternatively in a mixed case, both methods may be carried out simultaneously.

Procedure for Gynecomastia

1. Consultation and examination of your chest
2. Application of anesthesia
3. A small incision would be made under the chest
4. Ultrasound and laser would be used to liquefy the fat
5. Liposuction would be performed to suck out the liquefied fat
6. Subcutaneous mastectomy can be carried out for greater results in the case where you have developed many mammary gland tissues

FAQ

Q1: Is the surgery painful?
A1: Slight stiffness and soreness will be experienced.

Q2: What are the signs of gynecomastia?
A2: Signs vary from a small amount of extra tissue around the nipples to a more prominent chest. Sometimes, the chest tissue can be tender or painful, but this isn’t always the case.

Q3: Are there any non-invasive treatments for gynecomastia?
A3: Losing weight can help overweight men, though it doesn't necessarily cure gynecomastia. But for men that are thin, surgery is the only option for reducing gynecomastia.
