What is MRI 3.0T

You must be familiar with the word MRI that stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. But do you know what it is for and its details?

MRI Scan is simply a test that uses a strong magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce a picturesque image of your organs, tissues and other structures inside your body without having to go through surgery. Healthcare professionals use MRI to diagnose different kinds of conditions like torn ligaments to tumors. It can be a useful tool to examine your brain and spinal cord. If you have had difficulty in spotting your conditions using X-Ray or CT scan, MRI can be of a good measure.

In comparison to CT-Scans and X-rays, MRI scan does not use potentially harmful ionizing radiation.

How It Works

MRI uses powerful magnets that enable the force of protons in your body to be aligned with the strong employed magnetic field. Upon the pulsing of radiofrequency current through your body, the protons will be stimulated and spun out of equilibrium and to be strained against the pull of the magnetic field. When the radiofrequency is switched off, the sensors will be able to detect the energy released as the protons gets realigned with the magnetic field.

MRI 3.0T Vs MRI 1.5T

A simple math would tell that MRI 3.0T would work twice better than MRI 1.5T. MRI 1.5T are always readily available and work great to scan your internal organs. However, when challenges are faced, you want more precise results or you need them fast, then MRI 3.0T would be better and ideal, especially when minute details are crucial to diagnose.

FAQ

Q1: I just had a cyst removal surgery 3 months ago. Will I be restricted to MRI scanning for the time being?
A1: There is no restriction for you to undergo MRI. Those who have metals placed in their body might need to consider having to go through MRI. If you have had hip or knee replacements, you may only be allowed to for MRI 6 to 7 weeks after the surgery.

Q2: I am planning to conceive and have been told that I have a tumor. Will MRI affect my fertility?
A2: Infertility can be caused by many factors from genetic to endocrine disturbances. Generally, it would not cause infertility, rather, MRI can be a useful tool to evaluate any anatomic abnormalities including infertility.

Q3: Is it safe for me?
A3: Unlike X-rays, MRI does not expose radiation. However, if you have metals in your body, you have kidney problems or you recently became pregnant then it is best that you do not go for MRI Scanning.

Q4: I may have trouble to be in a confined space. Will I be given anaesthesia?
A4: For those who can not stay still during the scanning, they might be given a sedation or medication to help comfort them throughout the procedure.

Q5: I am wearing braces. Is it still possible for me to undergo the scan?
A5: Although brace are unaffected by the scan, there is a possibility that they can distort certain images. Our affiliated doctor and technician will discuss this beforehand. Few additional images may be required.

Q6: What will happen if I move inside MRI tunnel?
A6: It is very important that you stay as still as possible throughout the procedure. Otherwise, any movement will distort the images. If you might have to undergo a long MRI scan, our affiliated technician will allow a short break halfway through the procedure.
