What is Physical Checkup?

A physical checkup is comprised of several examinations done to determine the status of your health. The checkup is also an opportunity to address any ongoing pain, symptoms and other health concerns you have. It is recommended to perform a physical checkup annually, especially if you are over the age of 50, or younger, depending on your health risks.

Our affiliated doctors will look into your overall body performance, and look into your personal health history and determine if you need further examinations on certain areas.

How It Works

An average physical checkup may include the following:

· Health History
Updates on your overall condition, new symptoms, allergies, supplements and previous treatments or surgeries.

· Vital Sign Screening
Reading of your blood pressure, heart rate and/or respiratory rate.

· Physical exams
This is to review any signs of potential conditions. Tests may be conducted on the head, eyes, chest, abdomen, musculoskeletal system (such as your hands and wrists) and nervous system functions. Examinations may also include touching, or “palpating,” parts of your body to check for abnormalities.

· Laboratory Tests
Depending on your condition, a blood sample may be taken to detect any irregularities in your body system. In certain conditions, you may be tested for diabetes or requested for a thyroid screen, among others.

Checkup Preparation

· List your current medications and/or supplements.
· List the symptoms or pain you are currently experiencing.
· Bring any medical records or test results, if any.
· Inform the doctor if you have an implanted device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator.
· Inform the doctor if you are pregnant, suspected to be pregnant, breastfeeding or menstruating.
· Please fast for at least 10 to 12 hrs if you are scheduled to have a blood sample taken.

Advantages and Limitations of Physical Checkup

· Screens for various diseases
· Gives insights on how to live a healthy life
· Opportunity to make an early treatment strategy
· Identifies your body needs or deficiencies

· It is recommended to go for an annual checkup to monitor your health condition

Q1: Why is a health checkup important?
A1: It is important to check for underlying or potential diseases so that you can enjoy a better quality of life. Seeing the doctor only when you are sick can be damaging to your health, especially when the condition is already serious.

Q2: How often should I go for a health screening?
A2: It is recommended to get your health screening once every 1 to 3 years, depending on your age and medical condition.

Q3: I feel healthy. Do I need to go for a health screening?
A3: It is advisable for you to go for a periodic health screening as this can identify health risks and diseases that have no apparent symptoms or as a prevention measure.

Q4: I don't have any known medical problems but my family members do. So do I need to go for more screenings?
A4: This depends on your doctor's consultation on your conditions. More frequent health screenings or other additional tests may be recommended. The tests you need depend on your individual risk factors and health status.
