What is Alarplasty?
Alarplasty, also commonly known as Nose Reduction Surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to adjust the size and shape of the nostrils and alar by removing a certain amount of soft tissue from inside your nose. The "alar" is the soft and flexible tissue that extends outward from your nasal tip to your face.
How It Works
There are 2 common methods of alarplasty performed:
· Lateral Resection
A procedure recommended for patients with large nostrils. The treatment involves removing the skin at the base of the nose to make the nostrils smaller; thus, a slimmer and pointier nose would be visible.
· Median Resection
A procedure performed to reduce the large nose by making small incisions from the inside of the nostrils and draw the nostrils inward using the flap method. As the skin is cut from the inside of nostrils, there would be no noticeable wounds. The results would have rounder ends compared to the Lateral Resection method.
Procedure for Alarplasty
1. Consultation and examination of the nose condition
2. The area for incisions to be made will be marked for you to visualize
3. Application of local anesthesia
4. The incision will be made and the nose shape will be carved
5. Removal of the extra skin tissues from the nose
6. Sutures will be made to reinforce the new shape of the alar base
7. Closing of the incision and bandage will be worn for a few days after the procedure
