What is Breast Lift?
A breast lift is performed to improve the appearance and shape of drooping or sagging breasts in women who have lost volume in their breast tissue due to massive weight loss, breastfeeding, or pregnancy. Due to body changes, breasts can lose their firmness as well as their youthful and perky shape. Breast lift procedure restores and reshapes the breast to look more lifted, youthful and natural. In many cases, a breast lift is performed in conjunction with breast augmentation for optimal results, depending on your condition and desired results.
Meanwhile, a revision breast lift typically involves re-lifting or re-tightening of the breasts. Usually the breasts would often sag again due to aging and other factors, and although the sagginess may not be as serious as pre-breast lift, some patients may benefit from a revision surgery to feel more comfortable with their bodies.
How It Works
The aim of a breast lift is to tighten the skin envelope of the breasts by tightening the skin with these surgical approaches:
· Circumareolar - Also known as Benelli or donut mastopexy. Suitable for those with minor breast ptosis. This procedure involves removing extra skin around the areola or reducing the areola size, depending on your desired goal. Then, the areola will be slid into position and the skin around the areola will be stitched.
· Inverted T technique - An incision around the areola, then a vertical incision from the areola down to the breast crease, followed by a horizontal incision along the breast crease. Suitable for those with serious deflation of the breasts as this will enable a maximal removal of skin and breast reshaping. The scar will look like an inverted 'T' from the areola straight down the center and across the breast fold.
For revision surgery, doctors would perform the incision on the existing scars and essentially repeat the original breast lifting technique. Depending on your condition, only a portion of the scar may be used for the surgery.
Breast Lift Procedure
1. Consultation, examination, and marking of the areas to be treated.
2. Anesthesia will be administered.
3. Incision outlines will be made at the area where the breast skin will be removed.
4. The new location of the nipple will be defined.
5. Removal of excess skin.
6. Nipple and the areola will be repositioned to a higher position.
7. Breast will be reshaped as the skin surrounding the areola is brought down.
8. Skin will be stitched together.
