What is Embryo Transfer?

In-Vitro Fertilization is a common term for "In Tube Babies" and especially significant for those who wish to have a successful pregnancy after numerous failed attempt by natural conception.

Embryo Transfer is known to be one of the most important stage of IVF whereby it is the process of which the fertilized embryo will be transferred into the planning to conceive women's uterus.This procedure is the last stage of IVF.

How It Works

During a short 5 to 10 mins, you will experience the insertion of speculum into your vagina to keep the vaginal walls open. To ensure accurate measures, ultrasound will be used as a guide, a catheter will pass through your cervix and into the womb. The healthy fertilized embryos will pass through a tube and into the womb.

Types of Embryo Transfer

Once fertilization is done, there are 4 different types of Embryo Transfer:

<Fresh Embryo Transfer>
Once eggs have been fertilized, they get cultured for 1 to 2 days until the best embryos are chosen for the transfer.

<Frozen Embryo Transfer>
Any healthy embryos that were not used and readily available in store can be used to be transferred into your uterus. You may use your own frozen eggs or if that is not possible, you may use the donor frozen eggs.

<Blastocyst Embryo Transfer>
Some of the healthy fertilized eggs are usually under observation if they could turn into blastocyst. It is said that blastocyst has a higher success rate compared to other methods.

<Assisted Hatching>
Assisted Hatching refers to the process of weakening the outer layer of embryo before transferring it into the uterus. According to research, this is suitable for those who plan to have frozen embryos implanted.

Number of Embryos Transferred

There are still differences in practice as to the number of embryos transferred. In most cases, single embryo will be transferred to your uterus. Some also believed that 2 fertilized embryos transfer could increase the chance of a successful pregnancy.

The normal practice at our affiliated hospital is usually a single embryo transfer. However, treatment plans could differ depending on your body conditions.
