What is Osteotomy?

Osteotomy is one of the treatments under the category of rhinoplasty. It is a well-known method used to reduce the width of the nasal bone.
The result of Osteotomy is a slimmer and more defined nasal bridge and nose.

In the procedure of osteotomy, a piece of bone within the nose would be divided or excised in order to correct the deformity.

How it Works

There are various methods for reducing the width of the nasal bones, but the most effective method is the osteotomy, which literally translates to “cutting of the bone.” This surgical method breaks the nasal bone on each side and then rearranges it into the desired width. When a hump removal is performed in conjunction with osteotomy, it maximizes the effect of improving the appearance of the nose. If necessary, an implant can be inserted to raise the bridge.

FAQ

Q1: Is Osteotomy painful?
A1: Osteotomy is a kind of rhinoplasty. For all rhinoplasties, the most unpleasant part tends to be during the initial aftermath. Bruising and swelling are normal and temporary. Once the initial post-op edema subsides (relatively quickly), some swelling may persist for a few months.

Q2: Where is the incision made in osteotomy?
A2: For osteotomy at our affiliated clinic, the incision site is inside the nose and/or on the columella.

Q3: I have a heart condition, will it be okay for me to undergo this treatment?
A3: If you have any disorders or hear conditions, please obtain a medical documents from your general practitioner.

Q4: Is it true that this treatment is only for thick skinned people?
A4: It would be excellent if you have thick skin as the skin will provide coverage of the implant. Nonetheless, otherwise, you may still go for the surgery.

Q5: Will I need to have any post-procedure touch-ups?
A5: Because rhinoplasty is a complicated procedure and the nose swells during the operation, there is a chance you may need to have some post-surgery touch-ups. About 15 percent of rhinoplasty operations require touch-up procedures.
