What is Rhinoplasty with Auricular Cartilage Grafting?
Rhinoplasty is a surgery to enhance the shape of your nose. This surgery is often used to improve the nose appearance and/or function.
To further support the appearance of the nose, affixing cartilage of the ear (auricular cartilage) to the tip of the nose can be done. Since the amount of cartilage transplant can be adjusted, you can opt for a slim nose that protrudes forward, or a lifted nose tip with a slightly hanging columella. The result will look natural as cartilage from your own body is used.
The cartilage is harvested in an inconspicuous area, which means there will be no scars visible at the ear where the cartilage is collected. Besides that, since your own tissue is used, risks of foreign body reaction or allergies are greatly reduced.
How It Works
To perform this type of rhinoplasty, cartilage grafts from the ear will be collected. These grafts will then be transplanted into the nose through closed or open method, depending on your condition.
A closed method gives the advantage of invisible scar since the incision is made inside the nose.
An open method cuts the columella, which can produce a scar. But this scar will fade gradually with time.
Treatment Procedure
1. Anesthesia will be administered.
2. Auricular cartilage will be removed for transplantation use.
3. A small incision will be made and the soft tissue that causes roundness will be removed.
4. The auricular cartilage will be transplanted to the tip of your nose.
5. The wound will be sutured.
