What is Chin Reduction?
A Chin Reduction aims to make a broad or unbalanced chin and jawline smaller and sharper. The chin can be either moved forward or backward to create a more satisfying profile view. Our affiliated clinic offers 2 approaches to chin reduction: Whilst T-Osteotomy reduces chin size and repositions the chin, Direct Trimming only reduces the chin size and jawline and does not reposition the chin. Those with a receding or protruding chin can undergo T-Osteotomy.
How It Works
· T-Osteotomy
Using this method, the chin can be placed forward or backward to create a better profile. In T-osteotomy, an incision is made inside the mouth along the lower gum line first and the tip of the chin is resected with one horizontal and two vertical cuts that together resemble a T-shape. To further reduce the length of the chin, another horizontal cut can be made. The central bone fragment is removed and the remaining bones are fixed together using a titanium plate and screws or dissolvable materials. The lower jawline is then trimmed to create a smooth line. This procedure is often performed in conjunction with a mandible angle resection.
· Direct Trimming
This method is appropriate for people who do not need their chin re-positioned. The trimming method (shaving method) can reduce both the width and length of the chin effectively and safely. It is also performed to correct minor chin asymmetry.

FAQ
Q1: Is Chin Reduction performed under general anesthesia?
A1: Yes.
Q2: How long will the swelling or bruising last?
A2: Postoperative bruising and swelling will subside in 1 week. In 2 to 6 weeks, the swelling and bruising will resolve fully. But the bruises can be easily covered with a concealer stick so you don't have to worry.
Q3: Can I do exercises after the procedure?
A3: You should relax and avoid strenuous activities 3 weeks after the treatment. Any activity that potentially increases blood pressure will increase the amount of time it takes for the swelling to heal.
