What is Correction Mammoplasty?
Correction Mammoplasty involves removal and/or replacement of breast implants to correct any deformities or complications from the previous breast augmentation. Although breast implant surgeries have a high satisfaction rate, issues can arise after years of having the implant, which can involve aging signs such as sagging breasts or excessively wide cleavage.
This corrective surgery aims to restore a more youthful and attractive breast contour. The procedure may be as simple as exchanging implants through the initial incision or a more complex method in which a new incision or placement is needed. Factors affecting the likelihood of a good outcome include the elasticity and thickness of the breast and skin tissues as well as how much soft tissue can be used to envelop the implants.
Breast Augmentation Issues
There are issues following a mammoplasty that require patients to seek a secondary, or even third or fourth surgery. Some of them include:
· Breast Implant-Associated Lymphoma (cancer of the immune system)
· Capsular contracture
· Excessively wide cleavage, or little to no cleavage (Symmastia)
· Implant upsize or downsize
· Implant type change e.g saline to cohesive silicone gel
· Implant rippling
· Scar revision
· Breast lift
· Other issues that necessitate a Correction Mammoplasty
Implant Shape
For this procedure, teardrop-shaped implants are used. This type of implant has a thinner upper part and a round base, which mimics the shape of natural breasts.
A lot of people feel that the teardrop shape resembles the natural breasts more than the round implants. But it all comes down to your personal preference and the desired body silhouette when choosing your implant shape. Your doctor will suggest the most suitable implant for you, taking into consideration your condition and your desired result.
