Types of Implant

There are 3 types of implant available at our affiliated hospital

· The Ultrex AMS 700 - A 3-piece inflatable implant with a life expectancy of 8 to 10 years and a guarantee of 2 years
· Ambicor Implant - The second most popular and most effective type of implant
· Spectra - A concealable penile implant, does not inflate or deflate; a recommended option for those on a lower budget

How It Works

Penile Implant Surgery works by inserting a suitable implant into the patient's penis. Sometimes, an additional penile prosthesis will be implanted during the surgery to reconstruct the shape of the penis when scarring has caused erections to curve, often known as Peyronie's disease.

The inflatable penile prosthesis consists of two attached cylinders, a reservoir, and a pump. The two cylinders are inserted in the penis and connected by tubing to a separate reservoir of saline. To inflate the prosthesis, you will have to press the pump. The pump will transfer saline from the reservoir to the cylinders in the penis to inflate and cause an erection. To deflate it, pressing needs to be done on the deflation valve at the base of the pump to enable fluid to return to its reservoir and hence it will be deflated back to the normal flaccid state.
