What is Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct a deviated septum. Some could be born with deviated septum while some may have developed it through trauma or accidents.
Hence, septoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be categorized as cosmetic as well as medical procedures. For medical reasons, septoplasty straightens the septum and widens your nostrils, thus allowing better airflow through the nose. At our affiliated hospital, you are required to stay hospitalized for 1 night after the procedure.
How It Works
Septoplasty works by making an incision on one side of your nose to get direct access toward the septum. The deviated septum will then be corrected to move into the right position. If there shall be any barriers such as extra pieces of bone or cartilage, they will be removed. The mucous membrane will then be repositioned as a final step in the procedure.

1. You will be given general or local anesthesia
2. An incision will be made to create a path towards your septum
3. Deviated septum will be moved into the right position
4. Removal of barriers such as extra pieces of bone or cartilage
5. Mucous membrane will be repositioned
6. Stitches may be necessary to hold the septum
7. End of treatment

A3: It may. However, main objective of septoplasty is to only correct deviated septum.
