What is Implant Supported Porcelain Bridge?

Dental bridges in simpler words are known as false teeth that replace missing, damaged, or cracked natural teeth, 'bridging' the gap between the 2 teeth. They are now made with porcelain so that they are more aesthetically pleasing and blend in well with the natural teeth. At our affiliated clinic, Implant Supported Porcelain Bridge is available in 2 types: full arch with 4 implants, and full arch with 6 implants.

Implant-Supported Bridges are similar to traditional dental bridges; the only difference is that instead of being supported by dental crowns placed over adjacent teeth, the implant-supported bridges are attached to small titanium posts that will be embedded in the jaw. Unlike the normal dental bridges, this is a permanent procedure that could last a lifetime if proper care is taken.

How It Works

The total procedure can take up to 2 weeks or more, depending on your condition. In the first appointment, the doctor will make impressions of your teeth that serve as a framework for the creation of the new teeth. On the second appointment, the new bridge will be placed.

Procedure for Implant Supported Porcelain Bridge

1. During your first visit, a consultation will be done to examine your condition
2. X-ray may be performed to determine teeth and bone health
3. Teeth will be recontoured and shaped, and a shade for the bridge will be chosen
4. An impression will be taken
5. On the second visit (usually after 2 weeks), the permanent bridge will be placed
6. End of treatment. You will be given an aftercare guideline by the doctor

FAQ

Q1: How soon after tooth extraction can I have an implant?
A1: This depends on your dental condition. Sometimes, it is doable to place the implants on the same day as your tooth extraction procedure. But usually, you need to wait for about 3 to 6 months for proper healing before you can have the implant. Too long of a wait is not good too as it may result in loss of bone and causing implant placement more difficult.

Q2: Will I be put to sleep for this procedure?
A2: No, you will usually only be given local anesthesia.

Q3: How long can it last?
A3: Implant-supported porcelain bridge can last a lifetime if proper care is taken.
