What is Jaw Augmentation?
Also known as mandibular augmentation, the purpose of it is to balance the appearance of the jaw with your facial features. It is often done to create a more masculine look or to correct the facial trauma due to injury or accident. For women, the procedure is also performed to improve the recessed chin or so-called "weak" chin.
How It Works
Jaw augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure works by making an incision inside the mouth, through which implants will be placed. The implants are specially designed for each patient to create the desired jawline; placed against the jawbones and attached using titanium screws. The wounds are often closed with dissolvable sutures to ease the post-procedure.
In addition, jaw augmentation is often performed along with chin augmentation to result in the most balanced facial features.
