What are Varicose Veins?
Have you ever seen those unattractive, bulging or twisted veins; usually in blue or purple in color? They are known as varicose veins and are often located around the legs, but may also develop at other parts of the body. A varicose vein is unhealthy to the circulatory system and its destruction has no undesirable effects on the body. Since varicose veins can be painful and aesthetically displeasing, some choose to undergo a treatment to reduce discomfort or address complications like leg ulcers or swelling. But others simply wish to get rid of the unpleasant looking varicose veins. Home treatments such as wearing compression stockings or elevating the legs while sitting or sleeping are possible but may not work for all people. Our affiliated clinic offers various effective varicose vein treatments.
Treatments Offered at Our Affiliated Clinic
· Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
It is the least invasive procedure that is generally used to treat large varicose veins in the legs. The entire procedure usually takes 30 mins to 1 hour to complete.
· Radiofrequency Ablation of Varicose Veins (VENUS)
This technique uses radiofrequency energy (instead of laser energy) to heat up and damage the wall inside a vein. This usually closes off a varicose vein in the leg.
· Sclerotherapy Surgery
Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a salt solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together and the blood to clot. The vessel will turn into scar tissue that fades from view over time. Sclerotherapy can be divided into 3 types - Direct injection, ultrasound-guided or catheter-guided Sclerotherapy.
It is a procedure that is done to remove spider veins and smaller varicose veins.
Varicose Veins Treatment Procedure
EVLA Procedure
1. Local anesthesia is administered.
2. A laser fiber will be inserted through the skin and straight into the vein.
3. The insertion is guided by ultrasound until it reaches the incompetent segment.
4. The laser fiber is withdrawn gradually as laser light is delivered into the vein walls.
5. Fibrous tissue is produced and results in irreversible occlusion and disappearance of the veins.
