Vasectomy is a simple surgery performed on men to achieve permanent contraception conditions. In a simpler way of explanation, it is done to control births.

The procedure is meant for the family that is determined to not have any more children or men who do not wish to have any children. It is considered a permanent treatment as the reversal treatment usually would take up to 4 hrs of operation and the results may not be successful.

Sperm contributes 2 to 5 % to the semen, this can be traveled into the vagina and cause pregnancy. A vasectomy works by blocking each vas deferens tube, to keep sperm out from mixing with semen. With this done, sperm cells would stay in the testicles and be absorbed by the body.

Sperm-free semen will only be available 3 months after the vasectomy. At the meantime, about 15 to 20 ejaculations will be needed to flush the sperm out.

Conventional Vasectomy

Vasectomy is a quick and relatively painless surgical procedure. There are 2 different techniques available for vasectomy:

· Avoid having sexual intercourse for 7 days after the treatment
· Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 7 days
· It takes about 15 to 20 ejaculations for the semen to be sperm-free
· Apply ice packs to the scrotum for the first 2 days after the treatment

Q1: Any suitable age to proceed with a vasectomy?
A1: There is no age limit for a vasectomy, but if you are under 30 years old, surgeons may suggest you to not proceed with it yet.

Q2: Will this affect my sex drive?
A2: No. After a successful vasectomy, your testicles will continue to produce the male hormone (testosterone) just as they did before the procedure.
