Electroporation is a procedure in which an externally applied electrical field causes an increase in the electrical conductivity and permeability of the cell plasma membrane. Q1: Is electroporation better than iontophoresis?
A1: Iontophoresis uses small electrically charged ions to deliver chemicals applied on the skin and through the many layers of the skin. Quite similarly, electroporation enhances skin permeability using a high-voltage electric field. However, a difference between electroporation and iontophoresis is that the number of transdermal pathways available via electroporation is over 500 times more than there are in iontophoresis.
