What Is Dental Veneers?

Dental Veneers are thin layers of material applied to the front surface of teeth to enhance their appearance and function. They are used to correct aesthetic issues such as discolouration, chips, cracks, gaps, or uneven teeth.

There are 2 types of Dental Veneers available at our affiliated clinic:
1) Composite Veneers
Made from tooth-coloured resin and can be applied directly to the teeth in a single session. They provide a reversible, cost-effective solution that can be repaired or replaced if needed.
2) Porcelain Veneers
Custom-made ceramic shells that offer superior durability, natural translucency, and stain resistance. They provide long-lasting improvements and protect the teeth while giving a realistic, high-quality aesthetic result.

Benefits of Dental Veneers include restoring tooth shape and alignment, improving bite appearance, and protecting the teeth from minor damage.

How It Works

For Composite Veneers, the dentist at our affiliated clinic first cleans and lightly etches the tooth surface to prepare it for bonding. Layers of tooth-coloured resin are then applied, sculpted to the desired shape, and hardened using a specialized curing light. After the resin is set, polishing instruments are used to smooth the surface, creating a natural and glossy finish.

Porcelain Veneers follow a slightly different process. After evaluating and preparing the teeth, including selective enamel removal if necessary, impressions are taken and sent to a dental laboratory. Custom porcelain shells are fabricated to match the patient’s natural teeth. During a follow-up visit, the veneers are then bonded to the teeth using dental adhesive. Final polishing and minor bite adjustments are performed to ensure a comfortable, natural appearance.

FAQ

Q1: How long do Dental Veneers last?
A1: Composite Veneers typically last 5 to 7 years, while Porcelain Veneers can last 10 to 20 years with proper care.

Q2: What happens to teeth under Dental Veneers?
A2: The natural teeth are preserved but may be slightly reshaped for proper veneer placement. Porcelain Veneers may require more significant enamel removal, while Composite Veneers usually need little to no alteration.

Q3: Can I go back to normal teeth after Dental Veneers?
A3: Composite Veneers can often be removed or replaced, restoring the teeth close to their original state. However, Porcelain Veneers are permanent due to significant enamel removal, hence the teeth cannot fully return to their original condition once placed.

Q4: Are Dental Veneers painful to get?
A4: Most patients experience minimal discomfort. Local anesthesia is used during preparation to prevent pain, and post-procedure sensitivity is usually mild and temporary.

Q5: Which one is better, Dental Crown or Dental Veneers?
A5: Dental Veneers are primarily cosmetic, covering the front surface of teeth to improve appearance, while Dental Crown fully encases the tooth and provides more structural support. Dental Veneers are preferred for aesthetic improvements, whereas Dental Crowns are better for severely damaged or weakened teeth.
