What is Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontic treatment, also known commonly as braces, is a procedure performed using artificial materials such as metal, ceramic, etc. to fix the teeth by realigning the positions of teeth to make them fit in a perfect curve line for perfect smiles.
How It Works
Orthodontic works by constantly putting pressure on the grip of your teeth and encouraging them to move slowly into the correct position. The archwire is the one that grips your teeth to a certain pressure and other components like the brackets work to hold the wire in place.
At our affiliated clinic, there are various types of braces and one of them is Invisalign, in which no brackets and wire would be used to hold and fix the teeth.
Types of Orthodontic Treatment Available
· Metal
There are 2 types of metal braces available: conventional and self-ligating. Conventional ones consist of small "wings" on the brackets that are used for holding the tooth-aligning wires in place with tight elastic ties that come in multiple colors. Self-ligating braces do not have elastic ligatures, they have a door mechanism that can be opened and closed to hold the tooth-aligning wires and results in far less friction between the wire and the braces.
· Ceramic
Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but clear or tooth-colored brackets are used rather than the metallic silver brackets and wires.
· Invisalign
Suitable for both simple fix and complex shifts, it is a clear aligner that can straighten the teeth faster than braces in some conditions.
· Lingual braces
Metallic braces that are performed at the back of the teeth for the beauty of not having obvious wires and brackets on the outside.
· Functional appliances (twin block)
Acrylic blocks on the biting surfaces and metal wires to fix on some teeth, for straightening the jawbones and the teeth; you will be able to keep them on full time even when you sleep and eat as they are very comfortable to wear.
· Removable appliance
Made of plastic plate (acrylic) with wires coming from the sides; mainly focuses on fixing single teeth and widening either the upper or lower arches.
· Expanders (quad-helix)
Metallic material; helps to stimulate the upper teeth and jaw to grow wider.
· Debond fixed appliances per arch
Removal of fixed appliances.
