What is Mole Removal?

Moles are the most common skin growths. One can probably have about a couple on the face and the body. Unless for health reasons or if it greatly affects how you feel about your appearance, mole removal isn't necessary. Mole shapes and color depths vary, but all moles, such as facial moles, lip moles, and body moles, can be removed by mole removal treatments. There are 2 methods for removing moles: carbon dioxide laser and excision.

How It Works

At our affiliated clinic, moles can be removed with laser performed by a dermatologist. An intense burst of light radiation from the laser will break down the mole cells in the skin. The number of treatments you may need to fully destroy the mole depends on the mole condition.

Also, an excision method is available as well for a more complicated mole condition. The procedure will be performed under local anesthesia and small incisions will be made.

Mole Removal Procedure

<Carbon Dioxide Laser>
1. Consultation and examination of the mole condition
2. Marking of the moles to be treated
3. Irradiation of laser onto the moles
4. An ointment will be provided for application

<Excision>
1. Consultation and examination of the mole condition
2. Application of local anesthesia
3. The mole will be removed with a scalpel
4. Edges of the skin will be sutured
5. The thread will be removed after 7 days

FAQ

Q1: Will the mole come back?
A1: The recurrence rate depends on the method used to remove the mole. In excision method, the mole will not recur. The probability of recurrence after carbon dioxide laser removal is also very low.

Q2: Will the scars remain?
A2: Depends on the method and your condition. With the CO2 laser removal method, if you regularly use the ointment provided, the treatment site will heal and there will be no visible trace. And if you undergo the excision method, the area will heal smoothly especially if the mole size is not very large. But one important measure to take good care of it is to use sunscreen whenever you are going out to avoid darkening of the skin.

Q3: Is it okay if I don't use the ointment provided after CO2 laser removal?
A3: If the ointment treatment is neglected, a scab can form at the removal site, and there is a possibility that the mark on the skin will remain. Ointment treatment is always required after the carbon dioxide laser removal method.

Q4: How will the scar look like in the excision method?
A4: After thread removal, the wound will be in a line, but fades with time.
