What is Nail Surgery?
Nail surgery simply refers to the partial or total removal of a nail, depending on the case presented. A local anesthetic will be used to prevent pain during the procedure. Often after the surgery, a chemical will be applied to the exposed nail bed in order to prevent regrowth by destroying the nail cells.
Nail Surgery Procedure
1. Local anaesthesia is administered at the base of the toe.
2. Once the toe has been fully anaesthesized, a tight band will be applied as a prevention from bleeding during surgery.
3. Toenails are removed.
4. The tight band is removed.
5. The supply of blood flow to the toe is assessed and sterile dressing is applied.
Nail Braces for Ingrown Nail
Nail braces for ingrown nail is a thin, reinforced composite strip that could be fastened to the nail surface. It acts like a spring, gently straightening and lifting each side of the nail, reducing its pressure against the skin.
Partial Nail Removal
Partial nail removal is a procedure to remove only part of the nail (debridement). Anesthesia will be injected prior to the treatment.
Total Nail Removal
Total nail removal is a procedure to remove the entire nail (avulsion). Anesthesia will be injected prior to the treatment.

Q1: Will I be able to drive after getting my nail surgery?
A1: No, you must wait until the anesthesia wears off. You are also advised not to drive for the first couple of days after surgery.
Q2: Will the surgery be painful?
A2: You will be given anesthesia prior to the surgery and pain may vary depending on the patients. Often, you will experience discomfort at the surgical site for a couple of days.
Q3: Will I be able to shower as usual?
A3: It is recommended that you shower the day after the surgery. Avoid baths, swimming or soaking your feet for the next 2 weeks. Try to keep your toe clean and dry. Apply antibiotic cream after every shower.
