What is Vasectomy?

Vasectomy is a simple surgery performed on men to achieve permanent contraception conditions. In a simpler way of explanation, it is done to control births.

The procedure is meant for the family that is determined to not have any more children or men who do not wish to have any children. It is considered a permanent treatment as the reversal treatment usually would take up to 4 hrs of operation and the results may not be successful.

Many men worry that vasectomy could lead to other complications. It is ensured that these fears are unfounded, for instance, a vasectomy will not
· Affect sexual performance - ejaculation still will be as normal
· Permanently damage sexual organs
· Increase the risk of certain cancers
· Increase the risk of heart disease
· Cause severe pain

However, vasectomy do not protect men from STIs. A well-protected sexual intercourse is still required to prevent sexually-transmissible diseases.

How It Works

Sperm are produced in testicles and they leave the testicles by transporting through two tubes called the vas deferens. They then will be mixed with other fluids to make semen. Sperm contributes 2 to 5 % to the semen, this can be traveled into the vagina and cause pregnancy. A vasectomy works by blocking each vas deferens tube, to keep sperm out from mixing with semen. With this done, sperm cells would stay in the testicles and be absorbed by the body.

Sperm-free semen will only be available 3 months after the vasectomy. At the meantime, about 15 to 20 ejaculations will be needed to flush the sperm out.

Vasectomy Procedure

Conventional Vasectomy
1. Consultation and recording of patient's information
2. Application of Local Anesthesia on the scrotum
3. 2 small cuts will be made on each side of the scrotum to reach the tubes (vas deferens)
4. Each tube will be cut and a small section removed
5. Ends of the tubes will be closed by either tying or sealing with heat
6. Cuts will be stitched with dissolvable stitches (absorbs naturally within a week)

No-Scalpel Vasectomy
1. Consultation and recording of patient's information
2. Application of Local Anesthesia on the scrotum
3. A tiny puncture hole will be made on the scrotum to reach the vas deferens
4. Each tube will be cut and a small section removed
5. Ends of the tubes will be closed by either tying or sealing with heat
