What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like solutions made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance inside the body that keeps the skin hydrated and supple. As we age, levels of hyaluronic acid decrease, and this depletion leads to dehydrated skin and formation of wrinkles. Dermal fillers can help to improve aging signs by hydrating the skin, smoothing out fine lines, restore lost volume, soften facial creases and beautify facial contour. When injected beneath the skin, the hyaluronic acid will fill up the wrinkles so that the skin will look plumper and more even. It is also commonly used to plump up lips, giving a sexier and more youthful look. Since hyaluronic acid is natural, it is cleared as safe to be injected into the skin.

How It Works

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the soft connective tissues, keeping the tissues hydrated and firm. So when it is injected in areas such as nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, cheeks and others, the hyaluronic acid formulation in the dermal fillers acts as a support to facial structures and tissues that have lost volume. It binds water molecules, ensuring the skin to be hydrated and plump. It also helps the skin to be supple, fresh, smooth and lifted. Our affiliated clinic uses Juvederm in dermal fillers treatment.

FAQ

Q1: How long will dermal fillers last?
A1: The results can last for 6 months to 2 years, depending on your genetics, lifestyle and other factors.

Q2: Will there be side effects?
A2: There may be slight bruising or swelling after the treatment, but these are temporary and can be easily covered with makeup. Other side effects can include tenderness, redness, lumps, minor pain and itching but they will also subside within 2 weeks or longer.

Q3: When will I see results of the treatment?
A3: You can see the results on the same day. There may be swelling that can cause the area to look fuller than expected, but the swelling should resolve in a short time.

Q4: Are there any contraindications for dermal fillers?
A4: Juvederm is not for those who have a history of multiple severe allergies or allergic reactions, or have infections at the injection site. You should also inform the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding so that the doctor can examine your suitability. Besides that, do reconsider dermal fillers if you plan on getting chemical peels, since there is a risk of inflammation at the treatment site if you undergo peeling treatments after getting dermal fillers.

Q5: Why can't I get a facial massage after dermal fillers?
A5: It is recommended to avoid facial massage, or rubbing your face roughly with a towel for 2 weeks post procedure since the product may still be settling. So in order to avoid moving or disrupting the product, it is best to be gentle with your face for at least 2 weeks. After that, you can proceed with facial massage and treatments.
